Luciano Maggiore
is a Palermo-born, London-based musician, whose work addresses the performativity of the musical act, the perception of it, and the obscurity that emanates from it. His main interests include mechanisms of sound diffusion, performance, repetition, endurance, non-human animal languages, dance, and folklore. With the use of speakers, several analogue/digital devices (samplers, CD players, walkmans, tape recorders) as well as acoustic objects, Maggiore crafts work of dedicated simplicity and, at moments, absurdity, where the traces of the various sound media in use surface.
Spencer
Spencer’s 2023 Infant Tree release, meowmeowmeowmeowmeowmeowmeowmeowmeowmeow (they are in love), is delightfully hard to categorise. The world of machines (feedback, oscillating frequencies, airplane sounds and tape hiss) mingle with human inanities, some spoken (‘erm, what do you want me to say?’; ‘your mum eats my nits’; ‘think I might have enough on that’), others seemingly recorded by happenstance (computer mouse clicks, wind hitting a microphone, the sound of somebody readjusting their sitting position in a rickety chair). The result is an album that sits somewhere between captivating and disquieting from a mysterious musician we can’t wait to see perform live.
Tamaša
Crash bang skrrrt hssss words + feely geetar scrapings of cruelly optimistic screwball yammerings from this Notts-Texas duo.
